Exploring the growth inhibition potential of monoketone curcuminoids against Spodoptera frugiperda

Resumo

A lagarta-do-cartucho (Spodoptera frugiperda), conhecida como lagarta-do-cartucho (FAW, na sigla em inglês), é uma praga polífaga que causa enormes prejuízos econômicos em diferentes regiões agrícolas do mundo. Seu controle é desafiador devido à sua resistência generalizada a inseticidas convencionais e eventos Bt. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a toxicidade letal e os efeitos inibidores do crescimento de oito curcuminoides monocetônicos (MKCs) derivados da acetona em larvas de S. frugiperda. Os MKCs foram sintetizados por condensação de Claisen-Schmidt entre acetona e aldeídos aromáticos em meio básico e testados contra larvas de FAW na concentração de 250 mg kg⁻¹ (exposição alimentar) durante 7 dias. Nenhum dos compostos testados apresentou toxicidade letal significativa para a FAW. Entretanto, os derivados halogenados de MKCs 4 ((1E,4E)-1,5-bis(4-fluorofenil)penta-1,4-dien-3-ona) e 5 ((1E,4E)-1,5-bis(4-clorofenil)penta-1,4-dien-3-ona) exibiram efeitos subletais, reduzindo o peso larval em 59% e 55%, respectivamente, em comparação com o controle negativo. Esses resultados indicaram que a halogenação de MKCs pode ser uma estratégia promissora a ser explorada na busca por novos compostos bioativos para o manejo da lagarta-do-cartucho em sistemas de produção de alimentos agrícolas.
